The Atomic Energy Education Society was established in the year 1969 and registered under Registration of Society’s Act, 1860 and Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 with the headquarters at Mumbai and administers 30 schools and junior colleges at 16 locations all over the country. The objectives of AEES are viz.:
The Atomic Energy Education Society was setup to provide quality education to the children of the employees of the Department of Atomic Energy and its constituent units. From a modest beginning in the year 1969 with one school in Anushaktinagar, Mumbai, the AEES has grown steadily. It has grown into a dynamic organization managed by 1781 staff members, of which about 1547 are teachers, entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing 27889 students.
The Governing Council of AEES has delegated administrative and financial powers to various officers for smooth functioning of the organization. The delegation of powers is annexed in Delegation of Administrative and Financial Powers 2001 .
Chairman, AEES is the Head of the Department and the Chief Administrative Officer is the Head of office in the Central Office, AEES. The matters concerned with the respective section is submitted to the Administrative Officer, CAO, Secretary and Chairman as detailed in the organizational chart. .

Being purely Academic Institution, the nature of activities limits public interference in relation to the formulation and implementation of its policy
The Governing Council of AEES comprise of scientists/academicians and representatives for achieving the aims of AEES to provide quality education to the children of the employees of the Department of Atomic Energy and its constituent units. The meetings and minutes of the meetings are accessible only to authorized members. The Local Management Committee are constituted at different centers for day to day functioning of the AECS/JCs.

Under the Talent Nurture Programme (TNP) financial assistance is extended to the wards of socially and economically disadvantaged people who reside in rural/tribal stetch in the vincinity of AEC Schools and are admitted to the Schools under this programme.
